Dance for June started when she performed "Let it Snow" a song and dance number as part of her time as a Brownie - immediately she was hooked!
June then soon discovered dance classes, where she was able to sneak a peek at the lessons through a crack in the door, and then unofficially joined. June then eventually joined officially for a fee of 20 cents a class. She was hooked again!
After a few months she was entered into the Railways Institute Eisteddfod and she began to study Ballet, Tap, Acrobatics and Toe (pointe work), along with learning lots of tricks as her teacher Connie Lyn had worked in a circus company called 'Wirths.' This teacher gave June a great start and established a love for Dance.
June began her technical training at the age of 12 in Ballet, Tap and Musical Theatre with Isobel Anderson. Such a talented student, she was quickly upgraded to Elementary and given a fast course on the grades in between. .
June danced in Musical Theatre Shows with her fellow students and friends for many years and was so highly regarded, she danced on TV for 6 months in a weekly Variety Show.
Harlow School of Dance was established by June over 54 years ago in Oatley. It was the first Dance School set up in the St George area. Since then branches have been opened in Mortdale, Lugarno, Peakhurst, Penshurst and Hurstville. Many of June's former students have pursued professional dance careers, both in Australia and overseas.
June is a well-respected examiner, President of the Theatrical branch of the FATD and was awarded Australian Sports Medal in the year 2000. In 2007, Harlow School of Dance was awarded Winner of Hurstville City Council - Excellence in Business.
June loves teaching because of the emotion (but only if the student is "willing") and enjoys all styles of Dance.
