Many of our daily lifestyle activities are either repetitive or sedentary, which often results in injury. My Practical Pilates classes aim to centre attention on posture and create awareness of movement patterns that may be causing discomfort or pain. Physiotherapists and Chiropractors often recommend Pilates as an excellent complimentary form of exercise for their clients.
Many other forms of exercise adopt the "no pain, no gain" philosophy which can be detrimental in discouraging clients from maintaining their fitness regime, especially when that philosophy results in injury. A motto in our classes is "If it hurts, Stop" making Pilates quite gentle, while still very effective. When Pilates is practiced in conjunction with other exercise programs, many people find it increases their performance while protecting them from further injury. In my Practical Pilates classes you work at your own pace, choosing your personal level for each exercise to suit your ability. As your strength increases you can adapt your pace to match your new ability.
Exercise has a positive effect on our mood and in addition, the concentration required for Pilates results in many people leaving their class feeling renewed and centred. This can have an enourmous impact on our everyday lives well beyond the 1 hour a week we may spend in class.
Many of us are overworked and over-tired and finding time for exercise is not easy. The aim of Practical Pilates is to make Pilates more accessible by locating classes in your local area. Registration is by term and if you miss a class you can make it up, during the term, at one of the other classes or locations.
I invite you, and your friends and family to come and try a class and feel the difference Pilates can make to your wellbeing today.
